On Thursday the Judiciary Committee will interview one of Kavanaugh’s accusers. In the meantime, President Donald Trump continues to stand by his Supreme Court Judge nominee Brett Kavanaugh who has had accuser after accuser come out of the woods making accusations against the judge as far back as high school.
Trump has called the accusations against Kavanaugh “a big fat con” orchestrated by Democrats.
The latest and third accuser to come forward against the judge is Julie Swetnick who details parties where she says girls were allegedly drugged and raped. Swetnick recalls that Kavanaugh and others spiked the drinks of girls at high school parties with intoxicants to make it easier to gang rape them. According to CNBC, “The woman, Julie Swetnick, said Kavanaugh lined up with other boys, including his close friend Mark Judge, waiting to rape those girls at many parties and that she once became a victim herself. The allegations were detailed in an affidavit, signed under penalty of perjury, that was released by Swetnick’s lawyer, Michael Avenatti. Her statement was sent to a senior staffer on the Senate Judiciary Committee.”
Deborah Ramirez was the second woman to come forward. She was a classmate of Kavanaugh’s at Yale University and has accused him of exposing himself and causing her to touch his penis at a boozy dorm party. And Dr. Christine Blasey Ford who will be testifying about the time Kavanaugh held her down on a bed when she was 15, groped her and tried to pull off her clothes.
It will be interesting to see if with this third accusation against the judge will imperil the nomination to the Supreme Court. 10 Democrats on the Judiciary Committee have already urged the President to “immediately withdraw the nomination or order an FBI investigation into all the allegations.”
Michael Avenatti who is representing the third accuser told MSNBC that “There should be an immediate investigation and there should be no rush to confirm him to the U.S. Supreme Court.” Trump fired back in a tweet calling Avenatti “a third-rate lawyer who is good at making false accusations like he did on me and like he is now doing on Judge Brett Kavanaugh.”
Avenatti replied back to Trump’s tweet, “False accusations? Like those crimes your fixer Cohen pled to? You are a habitual liar and complete narcissist who also is a disgrace as a president and an embarrassment to our nation. You are so inept that your “best and brightest” are Cohen and Giuliani. Let’s go.”
President Trump and many in Congress including Mitch McConnell have made it quite clear that they have no intentions of calling an FBI Investigation against the Judge. McConnell especially has said many times that Judge Brett Kavanaugh will be on the U.S. Supreme Court but with all these accusations will he actually get confirmed? Will the Republicans continue to turn a blind eye to Kavanaugh’s past?
