As Fashion, Style & Beauty Editor I have the extremely tough job of locating the best resorts, services, stores and stylish hot spots that South Florida has to offer and reporting to you, our dear readers, what you need to know. For this issue I chose to explore The Spa at the Grand Resort–Fort Lauderdale’s largest gay men’s resort, what a good decision that was…

First let me say that I fell in love with the peace and quiet amidst the lush tropical landscaping. You must be buzzed into this oasis of 33 rooms, three penthouses and two pools, but once you’re in, it’s clear you’ve stepped into a treasure trove for the gay traveler or South Florida resident.

People seek out a spa for different reasons. Some think of facials and massages, while others go for peels and scrubs and wraps. Generally you think of relaxation and de-stressing when you book an appointment and you can certainly get all of that and more at the Grand Resort. But at this spa you can also get “the look”. You know what I mean, that expertly manicured, bodyscaped, glowing, healthy, masculine look with the enviable hair. A lot of men like the look, but don’t necessarily know how to get it. That’s because it’s a combination of services that make it possible. You can’t skip the skin or any one part and expect to have the results you’re looking for. It’s all in the details, and they are masters of details at this intimate yet affordable spa.

The staff are indulgent here and love what they do; it’s obvious from the moment you arrive. J.D.Greene, the Spa Director, has set the bar for the guest experience very high. Along with Paula the esthetician and Todd the stylist, they have provided an environment in which guests feel comfortable to get their questions answered. Anything from the correct way to shave, to curing foot fungus, to manscaping; you’re in the right hands. The intention at the spa is  to help people get reconnected to their bodies and be better in their own skin. When was the last time you allowed yourself to feel like that?

So many locals get into the habit of thinking of the beach and the hotels as just for tourists. It’s easy to do that, but I’d urge you to think of the Grand Resort as a local gay getaway as well as a treat for your out of town friends from time to time.
