puffyRapper and entertainment tycoon Sean Combs, also known as Puff Daddy (as well as P-Diddy, among others), president of Bad Boy Records, has left Warner Music Group for Universal Music Group‘s Interscope Geffen A&M Records. Combs decided to end his five-year arrangement with Warner’s Atlantic Records label, even if that means Warner will retain the current Bad Boy catalog and roster of talent. Combs was responsible for the the success of Biggie Smalls, Mase and Yung Joc, among others, will need to pull together some fresh talent for his deal with Vivendi-owned Universal, since his former stable of hitmakers will have to stay with the one that brung ’em (Warner/Atlantic). In recent years, Combs’ exclusive deal with Atlantic had yielded mixed results, and just one album from Diddy, 2006’s Press Play.
