Like me or hate me...I'm one cool cat!!

After inheriting the most difficult transition for a President perhaps in all of American history, your President, Barack Obama’s approval ratings are at an all-time low. So, what do you do to turn it around? You appear on ‘The View’. So that is what he did. Obama was the first sitting President to visit a daytime TV show. Every topic under the sun was covered in the taping. Obama made many interesting points, as he tends to do. The guy is intelligent as he is eloquent.

In discussing and dissecting the media and what it tends to focus its coverage on, Obama said, “The things that the media may focus on are not necessarily the things I focus on….I have to sign letters to parents of children who have been killed in Afghanistan or the husbands or wives of people who have been killed in battle, and that gives you a sense of perspective that is just different from what is going on, on cable TV on any given day.”

When asked about Shirley Sherrod, Obama was direct about how he viewed the situation. “What I do think happened in that situation is that a 24/7 media cycle that’s always looking for controversy and oftentimes doesn’t get to the facts first, generated a phony controversy. A lot of people overreacted, including people in my administration.” He continued, “Let’s not assume the worst about other people; let’s make sure we get the facts straight.”

Sherrod was forced to resign from the U.S. Agriculture Department after a conservative blogger posted a video clip of her making controversial remarks on race. However, it later came out that Sherrod’s speech had focused on how an incident more than 20 years ago had changed her outlook and made her realize people should move beyond race.

Obama noted that all the taxpayer money his administration spent to bail out General Motors and Chrysler will be recovered. He did a great job of avoiding the Mel Gibson situation when questioned about it. (Why is it his business, Joy?) He also answered questions regarding Lindsay Lohan and his use of the social network giant, Twitter.

Obama said he chose to appear on the program because first lady Michelle Obama watches it.

Obama appeared to enjoy his appearance. He was calm and cool as always. “We had some laughs with him,” said Joy Behar, who also has a nightly show on the HLN network. She added the president was at ease and did not appear nervous during the taping.

When keeping things light, there is nothing lighter than the ‘Jersey Shore’. When asked about the show, Obama was candid when it came to admitting to his lack of knowledge about reality television in general, saying he knew little about ‘Jersey Shore’ cast member Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi. “I’ve got to admit, I don’t know who Snooki is. I’m sorry,”
