Michelle Carter did not call anyone, or tell anyone when her boyfriend Conrad Roy III sat in his car inhaling carbon monoxide, after Carter herself convinced him it was the best solution for him to commit suicide.

During court hearings, the jury got to see hundreds of text messages from Carter all directing Roy III to kill himself, even when he himself had doubts! The judge in the case had this to say: “The court has found that Carter’s actions and failure to act where it was her self-created duty to Roy since she put him that toxic environment constituted reckless conduct. The court finds that the conduct caused the death of Mr. Roy.”

While Carter could face up to 20 years in jail, experts say that a lengthy sentence will be unlikely.

Some of the text messages exchanged between Carter and Roy III:

Roy: “I’m overthinking”
Carter: “I thought you wanted to do this. The time is right and you’re ready, you just need to do it! You can’t keep living this way. You just need to do it like you did last time and not think about it and just do it babe. You can’t keep doing this every day.”
Carter’s own attorney argued that his client was “a delusional young woman who was dragged into the suicidal journey of Roy, who had long been intent on killing himself.”
