Manny Pacquiao will return to the ring on April 23 to fight Amir Khan in Dubai.
Pacquiao who had an agreement to fight Jeff Horn on the same day said the fight did not pan out, instead the fans of boxing are getting the fight that they want.
Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38 KOs) announced a brief retirement last year but made a successful comeback against Jessie Vargas to capture the WBO welterweight championship in Las Vegas in November, saying he still felt like a youngster.
Khan (31-4, 19 KOs) has been out of the ring since suffering a vicious knockout loss to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last May at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. For that fight, Khan moved up to a catch-weight of 155-pounds. He was undersized and overpowered by the much bigger Canelo.
Pacquiao and Khan know each other very well, as Khan use to spar with Pacquiao when they were both trained by Freddy Roach. Khan is now trained by Virgil Hunter.
There were conflicting stories over what transpired during the sparring sessions between Pacquiao and Khan. Roach made several claims that Pacquiao had dropped Khan several times and even knocked the British fighter out on one occasion. Khan denied Roach’s claims and said he got the better of Pacquiao during their drills.
