Lucas Patchen, a high school basketball player from New York was benched when he missed a team bus because he was helping to rescue a fisherman from a drifting ice slab.
The Thousand Islands school district requires the student to call the coach or athletic director if they will not be riding on the bus. Patchen says he was unable to do so because he was in the middle of a rescue.
Superintendent of Thousand Island school district Michael Bashaw, said that they are proud of Patchen, but he knew the policy. Bashaw also went on to say he is willing to change the rule.
What do you think? Was the school district wrong for benching Patchen?
