I have to start out by saying that I love the Walmart Yodel Boy aka Mason Ramsey. I, like the whole internet world, were captivated by his singing and yodeling chants. The song he happens to be singing is by the Original Hank Williams, and it is called “Lovesick Blues”. The meme and song are so popular, that the original song by Williams which was released as a single in 1949, has surged 2,452% since the Walmart Yodeling Boy meme went viral, according to Spotify. The song currently occupies the No. 4 spot on Spotify’s Global Viral 50 chart, alongside artists Cardi B, The Weeknd and Lil Dicky.
Where else but in the greatest country in the world, the United States of America, can someone shoot to fame via memes, yodel remixes and huge media attention, to now have a legit chance at a dream? All from being impromptu filmed at a Walmart in the tiny town of Golconda, Illinois.
I saw Yodel Boy on Ellen, and what an absolutely kind and precocious kid. He has a great personality and was funny as well. You can’t help but be happy for him and how this happened. I know I am. It truly is something so great that is only in America.
Ellen asked Yodel Boy why Walmart? To which Yodel Boy replied, “Well…that’s because….it’s the only store we got!” He went on to say that his dream was to perform at The Grand Ole Opry in Tennessee, to which Ellen arranged for him to do as she let him know to his surprise on the show. She also surprised him with a $15,000 scholarship for college donated by Walmart.
She’ll do you, she’ll do me…She’s got that kind of loving–
Lord I love to hear her when she calls me sweet daddy
Well not only did Yodel Boy perform at the Grand Ole Opry, but before he performed there, he was a guest star and performed at Coachella. The crowd was insane over him as he performed.
But Yodel Boy mania hasn’t stopped there. Walmart decided to run with the hype of the meme and put together a concert for him in Harrisburg, Illinois that was live-streamed on the Walmart Facebook page. During the concert, Snapchat even threw together a Yodel Boy Snapchat filter.
I am pulling for Yodel Boy aka Mason. I sincerely believe that he has a great shot at fame that will last past this meme. He has a sweet voice it can take him far. Justin Timberlake started out in country when he was a child as well. What makes this story so great as well, is that Mason has been going at this since he was 3 years old. This is not a totally overnight, out-of-nowhere thing. He has been plugging away and just finally caught his break. Here is to us all hoping that Yodel Boy goes as far as his yodeling can take him. On a side note, I’m so caught-up in Yodel Boy mania, that I have the Trap Mix of his Yodel Song as my ringtone.
