Last week a Wikipedia editing war developed over whether Garfield was a male or female. In the end it made the Garfield creator forced to reveal the gender of the all so famous cat.

“If one could locate another source where Jim Davis states, as explicitly as he states in the Mental Floss article, that Garfield’s gender is male or female, then this would give rise to a serious controversy in Garfield canon,” Texas wrote on the “Talk” page Feb. 25. “Yet no such source has been identified, and I highly doubt one will ever emerge.”

Thankfully one did. First to the Washington Post then again to the Daily News.

“Garfield is male,” Davis told The News via his publicist. “He has a girlfriend, Arlene.”

Thankfully this gender war over Garfield can finally be put to rest. I always just assumed that Garfield was a male. The voice of the cat seemed to give it away.
