Chris Andrews, the sports book director at the South Point in Las Vegas, posted 2016 season win totals for every FBS team in college football – that’s 128 in total. This is kind of a big deal because it’s the first time in Nevada history, according to Vegas Insider, that gamblers can bet on win totals for every single team in the sport.
And wouldn’t you know it, a few hours after the numbers went up on the South Point board, Baylor coach Art Briles goes and gets fired in the wake a sexual assault scandal involving some of his players. The Bears opened at 9.5 wins, and bettors savvy and quick enough to jump on the ‘under’ have to be feeling good about their wagers, as Baylor was taken off the board minutes after the news broke.
Topping the list at 10.5 wins are Clemson and Boise State, numbers that result from cake-walk schedules for very good football teams.
Four teams are posted at 10 wins – Alabaman, LSU, Michigan and Oklahoma.
The South Point’s numbers come after the Golden Nugget posted win totals on 24 college football teams last week, and the two sets of odds present a fantastic middle opportunity on Ohio State. The bookies will scoff at this and probably mock you for it, but why not go ‘over’ the 8.5 at the Nugget downtown and ‘under’ the 9.5 at the South Point. It’s literally a can’t-lose proposition, and if the Buckeyes land right on 9 wins , you cash both tickets.
That’s as far as we’ll go today on offering picks on these win totals. Admittedly, we haven’t done enough homework to make any calls this far in advance of the season. There’s plenty of time for that. For now, peruse the list – perhaps something jumps out at you.
