Duke HoopsThe ink is barely dry on Villanova’s thrilling National Championship win over North Carolina, but betting is already open in Las Vegas on who will win next year’s title. Posting odds on teams whose full compositions are not yet known – we’re not yet exactly sure, after all, who’ll be going pro – is a difficult task for bookmakers. But the casinos want your action, so they’re happy to put up the numbers.

‘Nova is losing Ryan Arcidiacono and Daniel Ochefu, but they are expected to get three starters back and they are bringing in a solid recruiting class led by five-star big man Omari Spellman. The Wildcats open as the third favorite to win next year’s title at 8-to-1 odds. The last school to repeat as champs? Florida in 2006 and 2007.

There’s plenty of early offseason buzz around Duke with news that guard Grayson Allen will forego the NBA Draft and return for his junior season. That, and the fact they’re bringing in a pair of freshman – Jayson Tatum and Harry Giles – who Draft Express projects to go one-two in the 2017 NBA Draft.  Many pundits have the Blue Devils atop their way-too-early 2016-17 top 25, and Vegas bookmakers agree, installing Coach K’s group as the 9-to-2 favorites to cut down the nets next April in Glendale, Arizona.

Kentucky is next on the oddsboard at 6/1. John Calipari has reloaded with another group of five-star freshman, and according to 247 Sports, the Wildcats have the nation’s top recruiting class.

The next tier on the betting board features your usual suspects of college basketball bluebloods – Louisville, Kansas, Michigan State, North Carolina and Indiana.
