Albany NY sheriff Craig Apple had decided to create a cell block dedicated to only military veterans. The idea drew resistance by many, including his own staff.
The staff at the Albany NY county jail were not happy with the idea at first as they thought it was giving special treatment to a certain group of people.
After two years of this program Apple is deeming it a success. Out of the 195 incarcerated inmates who have been released back to the public only 10 have committed crimes that have brought them back to the jail.
The experiment has been such a huge success that there has never been a fight in the wing where they are housed.
