Fans were disappointed when the ABC Network canceled the reboot of the “Roseanne” show. ABC pulled the plug on the show after Roseanne Barr, the main character on the show and who the show is originally about, posted racist tweets about Valerie Jarrett, an African-American woman who was a senior adviser to Barack Obama throughout his presidency and considered one of his most influential aides. Ms. Barr wrote if the “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”

Barr later apologized, but it was too late. In announcing the show’s cancellation, ABC’s entertainment president, Channing Dungey, said in a statement that “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values.”

Since the cancelation of the show, talks of a spinoff including the remaining cast members have been circulating. Fans were excited about the idea of developing the characters on the show but many were not sure if the show could survive without the main character, Roseanne. ABC finally announced that a spinoff called “The Conners” would be added to the Tuesday night line up. So what went down for the show and the remaining characters to be on without Roseanne Barr? The network said that Roseanne has agreed to not be part of the show and have “no financial or creative involvement in the new series,” according to a press release.

The remaining cast to return will be John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman. According to USA Today, the spinoff would continue with a “sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before.” Could it be that they are going to kill the Roseanne character for good?

Despite the fact that it was Roseanne herself that caused the show’s cancelation and the loss of over 200 people’s jobs, many people do not think that the show will have success without Roseanne Barr. Her mouth may have been what got her in trouble but it was also what made the series. While the other actors on the show are good and liked by fans I don’t think they can hold the show on their own. Stay tuned to see!
