With the 2010 season in full swing, we already have three successful boat shows behind us.  The Stuart Boat Show, which was in mid-January, went very well and attendance was up.  The Trawler Fest, held at Bahia Mar in early February, was an excellent show with educated buyers walking the docks.  Although it was small, it is a niche market and people there knew exactly what they wanted.  The Miami International Boat Show, the second largest boat show in Florida was held on February 11-15h from 10-7pm daily between 41st and 61st street on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. The first portion of the show was free and is the only Southeast Florida show that is free so hopefully you were able to attend.

Ocean Alexander was in a new location this year at Ramp 34.  We had over 16 boats in the show including 7 new builds and 9 brokerage boats.  Within this group we featured our new 88’ Motoryacht 2010.  The new 88’ is a substantial new take on a yacht that size.  She has a fresh layout that really takes advantage of her large 22’ beam and maximizes interior space.  Although this model was initially launched in 2008, many changes have been made to the design.  The new design pays very close attention to maximizing space, light and offers long-range cruising ability with a 3,000 gallon fuel tank.  The new signature Ocean Alexander vertical portholes are also available on this model.  The décor features a satin finish instead of the high-gloss finish that previous models have had.  She has much more of a contemporary look but is still very warm and welcoming.

Powered with twin C-32 Caterpillar diesel engines and NiBrAl Class S propellers, the engines have a maximum output of 1,550 horsepower apiece.  This package allows the vessel to cruise at 11 knots and gives her a top speed of 21 knots.  For electrical power, the yacht relies on twin 30 KW Northern Light generators.  One generator is powerful enough to provide electricity to the entire boat with all systems running at full capacity.  The 88’ also features an Octoplex monitoring system with touch screens.  This system allows the captain to monitor tank and bilge levels, batteries, voltage, amperage and temperature.  There are three touch screen monitors on the yacht: one is the master, crew quarters and helm.  The engine room takes advantage of the full beam and has plenty of headroom and good accessibility.   Within the engine room is the Delta-T system.  The Delta-T system are intake/exhaust fans with variable frequency drives that facilitate the pushing and/ or pulling of air through the machinery space and provide a high rate of air exchange.  This technology is state-of-the-art and can be operated manually or automatically.  It is important to note Ocean Alexander on all of their vessels provide the highest end of hardware, machinery, appliances, electronics and electrical systems and technology, sparing absolutely zero expense.

If you are seriously looking to purchase a boat, it is important to have a broker to assist and guide you through the process.  Not only will your broker be able to navigate you through the process,  but it is necessary to be accompanied by a broker in order to board many of the boats on display.  Your broker will also be able to help your differentiate between the many models and manufactures and point out any differences, positive or negative.  Lastly, your broker is there to negotiate on your behalf and with your fiduciary responsibilities in mind when it comes time to make an offer.  Although all brokers may employ different techniques, it is important to have trust in your broker that he or she is getting you the best vessel for your money.
