A 73-year-old man is lucky to be alive after a great white shark jumped aboard his boat and knocked him over. “I just caught a blue coming in the corner of me eye… and this thing hit me in the forearm, spun me around and knocked me off me feet,” Terry Selwood, an Austrialian fisherman said. The man scrambled to safety as the shark thrashed madly on the boat.
The fisherman told NBC News in a phone interview that he lost “a bit of skin on his right forearm” after the sharked jumped on his boat, leaving him bleeding. Selwood said that the coast guards would not believe him until they saw the shark on the boat. Bill Bates, the skipper of the rescue vessel that brought Selwood to safety, told NBC News that the incident was “totally out of the ordinary. We do get a lot of sharks in the area, but we don’t get sharks that have jumped onto boats.”
