This beautiful sea creature is called a Feather Star! It is absolutely mesmerizing!
The real scientific name is Crinoid. The name comes from the Greek word ‘krinon’ which translates to ‘Lily’. When they are fully grown they become attached to the ground by a stalk and are known as ‘sea lillies’. Before they are attached to the ground by a stalk they are called feather stars or ‘comatulids’.
Feather fish are not known to be dangerous or poisonous but that is not for certain because there are over 600 known types that exist today. They are known as delicate filter feeders that just go about their business looking extra sharp in the water.
