Philando Castile’s mother has reached a $3 million dollar settlement with the City of St. Anthony Village, Minnesota after her son,  Castile was shot by officer Jeronimo Yanez back on July 16, 2016. Yanez was acquitted of second-degree manslaughter and two counts of intentional discharge of a firearm. Castile was killed in a traffic stop and his death was video tapped by his girlfriend who livestreamed the aftermath of the shooting on Facebook. The couple was pulled over for a broken tail light on the vehicle, Castile, his girlfriend and their four-year old daughter were all in the car at the time of the shooting.

The dash cam video shows Yanez saying, “Ok, Don’t reach for it,” referring to a firearm Castile told Yanez he had in the car. “Don’t pull it out,” Yanez says, repeatedly, as he appears to draw his own weapon. Yanez then shoots multiple rounds in the car.

People are still separated on  weather or not the police officer was right in shooting Castile as he feared for his life or if Castile was simply trying to get his ID to Yanez.
